AGILE Programme Enhances Education in Ekiti State
The Ekiti State
Government, through the World Bank-assisted Adolescent Girls Initiative for
Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) programme, has made substantial strides in
educational development. The initiative includes the renovation of over 1,000
dilapidated classrooms and the construction of 30 new classrooms in public
secondary schools. Additionally, 59 boreholes, 613 toilets, and 31 perimeter
fences have been installed across these schools.
The programme has
also significantly upgraded digital facilities by providing 60 smart boards,
2,600 laptops, 75 photocopiers, 139 solar inverter systems, and 76 printers.
Internet facilities have been set up in all 203 public secondary schools in
Ekiti State.
Under the Educational
Support component, 2,808 indigent students from all 16 local government areas
have received conditional cash transfers ranging from N20,000 to N25,000,
contingent on maintaining at least 70% school attendance. The AGILE initiative
aligns with Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s policy to enhance the economic
empowerment of disadvantaged students. A new educational component, the Ekiti State
Finishing Schools, will soon be launched to support students unable to complete
their education due to various socio-cultural factors.
