Aiyedatiwa Clears N2 Billion Gratuity Arrears for Local Government Retirees
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has recently disbursed N2 billion to clear the gratuity arrears for local government retirees from 2012 and 2013. This significant payment follows a previous N1 billion disbursed earlier, addressing a backlog of gratuities that had accumulated under the previous administration.
In his address at the flag-off ceremony, Governor Aiyedatiwa emphasized his administration’s commitment to addressing the welfare of retirees and ensuring timely payments. He acknowledged the unfortunate reality that some retirees had passed away before receiving their dues and reassured that his administration is focused on regular payments of both salaries and gratuities.
The Governor also pledged ongoing efforts to improve basic infrastructure across the state and gradually address arrears from subsequent years as finances permit. Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Amidu Takuro, praised the Governor’s dedication to alleviating the retirees’ hardships and ensuring they receive the benefits they deserve.
