Appeal Court Affirms Election of Alia as Benue Governor
In a landmark judgment, the Court of Appeal in Abuja has upheld Governor Hyacinth Alia’s victory in the Benue State governorship election. The court, led by Justice Onyekachi Aja Otisi, dismissed an appeal filed by Titus Uba of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) challenging Alia’s win.
The appellate court, in its ruling, emphasized that Uba’s claims against Alia’s deputy, Samuel Ode, were not substantiated beyond reasonable doubt. It concurred with the earlier decision of the Benue State Governorship Election Tribunal, dismissing Uba’s petition on the grounds of being a pre-election matter and being statute-barred.
Alia’s election victory stands firm following this affirmation by the Court of Appeal, solidifying the mandate given by the people of Benue State.
