Today, the Honorable Commissioner for Education and Knowledge Management, Rev. Dr. Fredrick Kyaan, took a significant step towards educational reform by convening a meeting with key stakeholders at Government College Makurdi. The purpose was to initiate the implementation of the 9-3-4 system of education in the state.

Rev. Kyaan emphasized that this policy shift aims to align with global educational standards and cultivate holistic learning, focusing on skills and character development. He charged all school heads to commence implementation by September, coinciding with the start of the new academic session.

In addition, Rev. Kyaan announced the printing and issuance of the long-delayed BECE certificates to deserving students who sat for the examinations since 2016. Dr. Terna Francis, the Director General of the Benue State Education Quality Assurance Agency (BEQA), unveiled a sample of the newly designed certificate during the meeting. Stressing its security features, Dr. Francis highlighted the BECE certificate’s importance as a prerequisite for admission into post-basic education, replacing the traditional common entrance examinations in primary six.

The progressive initiative received unanimous support from ANCOPSS, NAPPS, Forum of Education Secretaries, and APSON, who commended the Commissioner and the DG for their unwavering commitment to enhancing educational growth in Benue State.
