Benue State Education Quality Agency Cracks Down on Excessive BECE Charges

Dr. Terna Francis, Director-General of the Benue State Education Quality Assurance Agency (BEQA), has embarked on a campaign to address concerns over exorbitant charges for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

During school visits, Dr. Francis discovered instances where schools were charging fees significantly higher than the approved amount set by the Examination board. He sternly warned against such practices, emphasizing the importance of adhering to the prescribed fees to ensure fairness and accessibility to education.

Dr. Francis also underscored the significance of prompt payment of school levies, including those for quality control, ICT, and sports. He urged school administrators to fulfill their obligations in a timely manner to support the overall quality of education.

The schools visited included LGEA Primary School, UBE Junior Secondary School, Hilltop Nursery and Primary School, and St. Thomas Lavin Academy. These visits aimed to enforce compliance with fee regulations and promote transparency in education administration.
