Benue State Joins Hands with Religious and Traditional Leaders to Tackle Insecurity

As part of measures to address the persistent security challenges in Benue state, the Special Adviser to Governor Hyacinth Alia on Security and Internal Affairs, Chief Joseph Har, PSP, has revealed that the state government will collaborate closely with religious and traditional leaders to enhance community security. Chief Har shared this plan during his address to participants at the Youth Bible Conference of the NKST Central Church in Makurdi.

Har, who has a history with the NKST church, visited the conference to support the event and offer valuable security tips to help the community work alongside the state government in securing the region. He also announced that the government, led by Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia, is organizing a security summit to raise awareness about the security situation and educate the public on how to deal with it. This summit will involve various stakeholders, including faith-based organizations, civil society groups, traditional rulers, students, and unions.

Chief Har emphasized the need for vigilance at all levels, even within places of worship. He urged individuals to stay alert, be cautious about newcomers and strangers, and report any suspicious behavior. The government’s commitment to providing adequate security for the safety of lives and property was underscored. Har explained that they are taking a multifaceted approach to address crime prevention through the involvement of traditional, religious, civil society, and union leaders. He expressed plans to organize a summit that brings together leaders from various sectors to brainstorm and educate the community on effective policing and collaboration with all stakeholders for peace and order in Benue.
