Benue State’s Commitment to Power and Transport Sector Transformation
The government of Benue State, under the leadership of Governor Hyacinth Alia, is reaffirming its dedication to transforming the power and transport sectors to address the critical needs of the people. Barr Omale Omale, the Commissioner for Transport and Power, made this announcement during an address to journalists in Makurdi.
The commissioner emphasized the significance of these sectors in revitalizing the state’s economy and noted that the Ministry of Power and Transport, established by Governor Alia’s administration, is pivotal to this endeavor.
Omale disclosed that comprehensive plans are in place to enhance the services provided by the state-owned Benue Links Transport Company, with a focus on seamless travel experiences and safety. The company has already received 80 percent of the new buses acquired, and safety assessments are being conducted to ensure passenger well-being.
He assured the people of Benue that Benue Links buses will serve all 23 local government areas in the state, with a continuous cycle of buses entering and exiting these areas to mitigate the impact of fuel subsidy removal on residents.
Omale also announced the reclamation and refurbishment of the North Bank and Wurukum Parks in Makurdi to provide improved services to travelers, including the removal of illegal occupants. These initiatives demonstrate the government’s commitment to addressing the transportation and power needs of the state’s residents.
