In a momentous stride towards female empowerment, Benue State Commissioner for Cooperatives and Rural Development, Mrs. Joy Luga, unveiled plans to bolster the livelihoods of 27,600 women across the state. These women are set to receive grants and soft loans from the Bank of Agriculture (BOA), marking a significant leap towards self-reliance and prosperity.

During a commemoration of the 2024 International Women’s Day in Makurdi, Commissioner Luga expressed heartfelt gratitude to Governor Hyacinth Alia for his unwavering commitment to supporting women’s advancement. Emphasizing the governor’s strategic vision, she underscored the inclusion of rural women in the state’s developmental agenda, ensuring that no woman is left behind.

The comprehensive empowerment program encompasses diverse skill-building initiatives, including fashion and hair designing, beads making, beauty and cosmetics, soap and detergent making, as well as ICT training. Following rigorous training, participants will receive loans ranging from N100,000 to N200,000, empowering them to embark on entrepreneurial ventures and elevate their socio-economic status.

Commissioner Luga emphasized the holistic nature of the empowerment schemes, extending support not only to women but also to men eager to enhance their socio-economic standing. This inclusive approach reflects the government’s commitment to fostering gender equality and inclusive growth, ushering in a new era of prosperity for all Benue residents.
