Borno to Curtail Influx of Unaccompanied Children Coming to Maiduguri
The Borno State Government has reiterated its commitment to addressing the influx of unaccompanied children into the state. This decision was announced by the Commissioner of Information and Internal Security, Prof. Usman Tar, following a State Security Council meeting on Monday, chaired by Governor Babagana Umara Zulum.
Prof. Tar stated that the council met to review the security situation in the state from August 1st to 5th, 2024, and reached several resolutions. One key resolution is to monitor and control the transportation of unaccompanied children to Maiduguri, allowing only those identified as having parental care to enter the state capital.
The commissioner emphasized that the Borno state government remains committed to supporting security operatives in maintaining law and order. The council also resolved to expedite the prosecution of arrested hoodlums and to ensure that juvenile cases are handled appropriately. The Ministry of Justice has been tasked with developing a juvenile justice system immediately.
Prof. Tar urged the general public to support security forces with native intelligence to help maintain peace and stability in Borno State. The government’s proactive measures underscore its dedication to safeguarding the welfare of children and ensuring a secure environment for all residents.
