C’River Gov’t Urges Workers to Resume Work
Despite the ongoing nationwide hunger protest, workers in Cross River State have been urged to resume work. The State Head of Service, Dr. Innocent Eteng, made the call during a statewide broadcast, emphasizing that the workers have no business with the protest.
Dr. Eteng highlighted Governor Bassey Otu’s efforts to improve workers’ welfare, including introducing a N40,000 minimum wage, approving promotions up to 2023, and allocating N10 billion for retirees. He stressed that the state provides enough security for workers to safely resume their duties.
Dr. Eteng also warned against protests, citing potential disruptions and property damage caused by hoodlums. He encouraged workers to appreciate the governor’s efforts and continue working to support the state’s economy.
While protests had initially shut down private businesses and government offices, normalcy has largely returned to Calabar. Dr. Eteng reiterated that dialogue is a more appropriate means of addressing grievances, pointing out that President Bola Tinubu is implementing measures to alleviate poverty and hardship.
