Cross River Embarks on Comprehensive Mpox Surveillance Training to Strengthen Public Health

0

In a proactive effort to enhance disease surveillance and preparedness, the Cross River State government, in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), has launched an intensive training program for community informants and surveillance officers across all local government areas. This initiative aims to bolster the state’s ability to monitor and manage potential disease outbreaks.

The move follows a statement by the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Henry Ayuk, who refuted recent claims by the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) that Cross River is at risk of an Mpox outbreak. Dr. Ayuk emphasized that, thanks to the government’s proactive measures, there is currently no evidence of Mpox, Cholera, or Lassa Fever in the state.

“Training is currently ongoing in all our LGAs for community informants and surveillance officers, sponsored by WHO in collaboration with the State Ministry of Health,” Dr. Ayuk confirmed, highlighting the government’s commitment to maintaining a disease-free state.

As Mpox remains a global health concern, with WHO declaring it a health emergency, Cross River’s approach ensures that the state remains vigilant and well-equipped to handle any potential health threats, safeguarding the well-being of its citizens.
