Cross River Government Takes Swift Measures to Combat Cholera Outbreak
In a positive development, the Cross River government, under the leadership of Governor Alia, is proactively addressing and controlling the cholera outbreak in Obubura and Biase, two Local Government Areas (LGAs) within the state.
Dr. Henry Ayuk, the Commissioner for Health, conveyed this encouraging news in Calabar, confirming only one case in Obubura and two in Biase. He highlighted the activation of an emergency operation center, led by the state epidemiologist, Dr. Blessing Ekpenyong, as an incident manager, to efficiently coordinate the response.
Ayuk emphasized the collaborative efforts, with support from the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), in placing response commodities to affected wards. The LGA’s Rapid Response Team has already been deployed for case investigation and line listing, showcasing the government’s commitment to contain the spread of the disease.
Governor Alia’s administration urges the public to strictly adhere to preventive measures, fostering a collective effort to combat cholera by avoiding unsafe water practices and unhygienic food consumption.
