Cross River Government’s Green Partnership to Tackle Climate Change

The Cross River State Government, in collaboration with the National Council on Climate Change, is taking proactive steps to address the challenges posed by climate change. Commissioner for Environment, Moses Osogi, made a compelling case for cooperation during his visit to the Director General of the NCCC in Abuja.
Osogi emphasized the importance of building a harmonious relationship between both entities, emphasizing the need to understand and counteract the growing climate change patterns. He highlighted the role of the environment in maintaining climate balance and called for the NCCC to create a platform for environmental activities that mitigate and prevent the adverse effects of climate change, ultimately benefiting the residents of Cross River.
While acknowledging the environmental challenges faced by the state, such as waste disposal, erosion, floods, and residents’ attitudes, Osogi revealed that Cross River State had been recognized as the third cleanest state in the country. This accolade reflects the tireless efforts of the ministry. In response, the Director General of the National Council on Climate Change, Dr. Salisu Dahiru, appreciated the commissioner’s visit and commended his professionalism. He expressed concern about the recent decline in the state’s environmental standards and assured the council’s commitment to collaborating on environmental activities, particularly in implementing climate change action plans.
