Cross River Governor Bassey Otu Honored with Michael Okpara Leadership Award
Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State has received widespread praise following his selection for the prestigious Michael Okpara Leadership Award Premier’s Prize 2024 for Excellence in Governance and Service with Integrity. The award, conferred by the Michael Okpara Foundation, recognizes leaders who embody the values and spirit of Rt. Hon. Michael Okpara, the former Premier of Eastern Nigeria.
In a joint message, eight Cross River lawmakers commended Governor Otu’s leadership, noting that his one year in office has inspired hope for a better Cross River. They emphasized that the governor’s pragmatic and visionary approach has steered the state towards progress and stability.
Prominent figures, including Evangelist Michael Asuquo of Faithplant Global Services Ltd, also hailed the governor’s achievements in governance, calling his leadership “unprecedented” in Cross River’s history. Additionally, the Forum of Special Advisers lauded the award as a recognition of the socio-economic progress brought about under Otu’s leadership, describing him as a “national asset.”
The award ceremony, scheduled for August 22, 2024, in Abuja, will also feature Governor Otu delivering a keynote address. Organizers praised the governor’s integrity and dedication to public service, which they said mirrors Dr. Okpara’s legacy of impactful governance.
