Cross River Governor Convenes Emergency Meeting with Heads of Security Agencies
Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State has convened an emergency closed-door meeting with heads of security agencies to address growing concerns over a planned protest by Nigerians scheduled for August 1, 2024. The meeting was necessary to express fears and strategize on measures to maintain peace and order.
Shortly after the meeting, Commissioner of Police for Cross River State Command, Augustine Grimmah, warned individuals planning to participate in the protest to refrain from any act that could lead to a breach of peace. He stated that security agencies would not hesitate to take decisive action against anyone perpetrating evil or causing chaos. The governor and security heads resolved to maintain peace and order in the state at all costs, dispelling rumors of a planned curfew and assuring citizens that there are no plans to restrict movement.
The Commissioner of Police assured the public that security agencies are fully prepared to maintain law and order, protect lives and property, and prevent any potential disruption of normal activities. Citizens are advised to remain calm and go about their daily activities.
In attendance were Commissioner of Police Augustine Grimmah; Director of State Security Services (DSS); representatives from the Nigerian Army and Nigerian Navy; and other top security officials.
