Ebonyi State is making significant strides in rural development through its partnership with the World Bank via the Ebonyi State Community and Social Development Agency (EB-CSDA). Last month, the agency, in collaboration with the Ebonyi State Ministry of Human Capital Development/Monitoring, launched a major state-wide micro project. This initiative involved the disbursement of funds totaling N2.055 billion to 100 communities and 2,040 Labour Intensive Public Workfare beneficiaries.

Governor Francis Nwifuru, represented by Speaker Moses Odunwa, highlighted the importance of this initiative, which aligns with the state government’s commitment to community development. The funds aim to bolster the economic power of local residents and support various community projects. Nwifuru emphasized the state’s dedication to prioritizing development across all 13 local government areas.

The Commissioner for Human Capital Development/Monitoring, Mrs. Ann Anigwe, noted that each of the 100 communities will receive N12.5 million for their chosen projects. This increase from the previously allocated N10 million demonstrates Governor Nwifuru’s commitment to enhancing community development. Additionally, 2,040 beneficiaries, including youths, artisans, and the elderly, will each receive N180,000.

The General Manager of EB-CSDA, Mr. James Iroh, praised the state government’s support, naming some of the benefiting communities and citing previous funding disbursements. The Chairman of the Steering Committee, Mr. Leonard Uguru, reiterated the program’s impact on poverty reduction and grassroots development.

Lawmakers also voiced their support, with the Chairman of the House Committee on Human Capital Development, Aloysius Nwodom, affirming the positive impact of the initiative. Beneficiaries, such as Offerekpe community representative Mr. Linus Nwizi, expressed gratitude for the governor’s efforts in rural development.

In addition, the state government has initiated a skills acquisition program by sending 100 youths to Agbani Farms in Enugu for training in agricultural skills. This program, coordinated by Master Skill Development, aims to address food insecurity and equip youths with practical skills for self-employment.
