Ebonyi State Launches Empowering Digital Skills Training for 5,000 Youths
In a groundbreaking move to prepare Ebonyi State’s youth for the digital age, the state government has launched a free digital skills training program aimed at equipping 5,000 young people with essential skills for the modern economy. This initiative, run through the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) office and supported by the First Lady’s BERWO Foundation, marks a significant step towards youth empowerment and economic development.
The pilot phase of the program, launched on July 27, 2024, in Abakaliki, will train 200 youths in Digital Marketing, Video Editing, and Graphics Design using the GetBundi Education Technology platform. Speaking at the launch, the First Lady, Chief Mrs. Mary-Maudline Nwifuru, underscored the importance of digital skills in today’s world. “This program is a beacon of hope for our youth. With these skills, you can compete globally and secure a prosperous future for yourselves and your families,” she said.
Mrs. Nwifuru passionately addressed the participants, highlighting the long-term benefits of the training. “What we are offering you today is far more valuable than material possessions. Digital skills are the currency of the future, and with them, you can achieve financial independence and make significant contributions to our state’s economy,” she emphasized.
The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor and SDG focal person, Engr. Mrs. Esther Nwogha, described the initiative as transformative, with goals that include job creation, economic growth, and inclusivity. “We are committed to empowering our youth with the tools they need to thrive in the digital economy. This program is designed to make you job-ready and capable of starting your own ventures upon completion,” Nwogha stated.
The training, which will run fully online for four months, is structured to provide personalized support and interactive learning experiences. The program’s flexible approach ensures that participants can balance their studies with other commitments, while still achieving their learning objectives.
Osita Oparaugo, founder of GetBundi Education Technology, expressed his team’s dedication to the success of the program and its impact across Africa. “This is a unique opportunity for you to acquire skills that will keep you relevant in the workforce. The global job market is shifting towards skills-based employment, and with the training we provide, you’ll be well-positioned to succeed,” Oparaugo explained.
He also highlighted the importance of community and collaboration, encouraging participants to engage with peers from across Africa and beyond through the GetBundi platform. “We are committed to your success and are here to support you every step of the way,” he assured the participants.
This initiative not only represents a significant investment in the future of Ebonyi’s youth but also positions the state as a leader in digital education and economic innovation.
