Ekiti Deputy Governor Urges Traditional Rulers to Promote Monthly Clean-Up Participation
In Ekiti State, Deputy Governor Monisade Afuye has encouraged traditional rulers to play an active role in ensuring citizens’ full compliance with the monthly environmental sanitation exercise. During a visit to Igara-Odo Ekiti’s palace at Oba Edward Jayeola, Afuye emphasized the significance of the monarchs’ efforts in upholding environmental laws and policies aimed at enhancing the health and well-being of residents. She expressed concern over the sizable presence of traders at the Oja Oba Market during the designated sanitation hours, labeling it a violation of the state’s Environmental Sanitation Law.
Afuye reiterated the law’s mandate for citizens to prioritize cleanliness every last Saturday between 8 am and 10 am, unless officially exempted by the government. She urged all traditional rulers to collaborate with local governments to educate residents about the crucial need for a monthly sanitation program, emphasizing its role in preventing the outbreak of communicable diseases. The Deputy Governor underscored the importance of prioritizing health and hygiene for the well-being of the populace in line with Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s administration’s directives.
