Ekiti Embarks on Transformative Rural Road Construction Project
Ekiti State Government is set to embark on an ambitious rural road construction initiative across all 16 local governments, thanks to the World Bank Assisted Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Projects (RAAMP). The State RAAMP Coordinator, Mr. Sunday Adunmo, announced this exciting development in Ado-Ekiti during a one-day sensitization training session for project workers.
Construction activities are scheduled to commence next month on various rural roads within the state. Ekiti officially became a participant in this project in August last year, meeting all the necessary conditions. The RAAMP coordinator revealed that engineering designs for 12 roads spanning 77 kilometers have been received and will be launched by the end of October to kickstart construction work. Additionally, tenders have been opened for consultancy services to design and supervise spot improvements on 122 kilometers of rural roads in phase one, with rural road upgrading scheduled for advertisement next year.
The state project coordinator acknowledged the transportation challenges faced by farmers and assured that rural communities will soon witness substantial road construction, a significant step towards improving accessibility and livelihoods.
