Ekiti Government Enhances Market Linkages for Livestock Farmers
The Ekiti State government has reaffirmed its dedication to improving market access and productivity for livestock farmers through collaboration with various stakeholders. This commitment was highlighted during a stakeholder engagement in Ado-Ekiti, led by Ebenezer Boluwade, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security.
The event, titled “Building the Resilience of Livestock Farmers through Market Linkages and Accessibility,” was part of the World Bank-assisted Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) program. Boluwade addressed the challenges faced by livestock farmers, including limited market information and climate change impacts. He called for a unified effort to enhance market linkages, promote technological advancements, and support climate-smart practices to bolster the sector.
Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s administration has invested significantly in making livestock production more profitable. The National Project Coordinator of L-PRES, Sanusi Abubakar, praised the state’s initiatives and outlined upcoming projects to further boost livestock productivity. Olayinka Adedipe, the State Project Coordinator, announced plans for a modern abattoir and cattle market to support healthy and efficient livestock production.
