Ekiti State Governor Initiates Monthly Stipends for Indigent Citizens
Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State commenced a monthly payment of N5,000 as palliatives to support 10,000 economically vulnerable residents of the state. Inaugurating the disbursement of cheques to beneficiaries, the governor emphasized this initiative as part of the administration’s palliative measures to alleviate the economic hardships faced by the less privileged due to the impact of the current economic situation.
Represented by the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mr. Niyi Adebayo, Governor Oyebanji stated that the scheme, spanning five months, aims to provide monthly financial support to indigent citizens. This effort aligns with the government’s commitment to ensure that the underprivileged segments of society feel the government’s presence during difficult times.
The commissioner highlighted various ongoing palliative programs by the state government, including the distribution of food items, free transport services for civil/public servants and students, salary adjustments, and other welfare initiatives for the elderly.
Beneficiaries, selected from a social register in collaboration with the federal government, represent a transparent and non-partisan selection process, involving indigenes across all local government areas.
In response, one of the beneficiaries, Akinola Tolulope, expressed gratitude to Governor Oyebanji for the assistance, affirming their commitment to judiciously utilize the funds.
