The Ekiti State government has embarked on an exciting partnership with the United Nations-HABITAT to foster effective urbanization within the state. Dr. Gboyega Oloniyo, the Special Adviser to the Bureau of Housing and Mortgage Development, announced the collaboration during a press briefing in Ado-Ekiti.

This collaboration aims to comprehensively develop the state’s capital, Ado-Ekiti, and will focus on identifying areas for sustainable urban development. Delegates from the UN-HABITAT are set to visit the state from October 15 to 17 to initiate a scoping mission in line with the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between the Ekiti State Government and the United Nations Human Settlement Programme.

The collaboration is expected to result in enhanced urban development, an improved quality of life for residents, and a platform for expert dialogue, knowledge sharing, and collaborations. The insights and expertise of the United Nations in the field of sustainable development will be instrumental in guiding Ekiti State’s journey towards a more sustainable and thriving urban environment. Ekiti State, known as the ‘Fountain of Knowledge,’ is committed to promoting sustainable urbanization under the leadership of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji.

By working in harmony, the state aims to address pressing urbanization issues such as housing, infrastructure, environmental sustainability, and social inclusion, fostering a brighter future for its residents.
