Empowering Future Generations: Lagos State’s Plan for a Medical University by 2024

Governor Sanwo-Olu revealed Lagos State’s forward-thinking plan to establish a medical university, focusing on enhancing healthcare training and addressing the brain drain issue within the health sector. During the inauguration of the Femi Gbajabiamila General Hospital in Surulere, Lagos, facilitated by the Chief of Staff to the President, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, the governor announced this collaborative effort with the Federal Government, expected to be operational before the conclusion of 2024.

Emphasizing the importance of the hospital project, the governor highlighted the strategic intervention to aggressively scale up healthcare training for youths within the health space. The initiative aims to graduate between 1,000 and 1,500 doctors annually and curb the trend of medical personnel leaving the country. Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed determination to provide top-notch facilities to retain the best talents in the country. This proactive approach aligns with the state’s commitment to ensure a robust healthcare system.
