Federal Government and IFAD-VCDP Empower 534 Farmers to Enhance Rice Production in Kogi
In a concerted effort to bolster rice production in Kogi State, the Federal Government, in collaboration with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), has provided assistance to 534 farmers through the Value Chain Development Programme (VCDP-AF).
At a flag-off ceremony tagged “2023/2024 Dry Season Input Distribution To VCDP Rice Farmers” in Lokoja, Dr. Fatima Aliyu, the National Programme Coordinator of IFAD-VCDP, emphasized the significance of this initiative in bolstering rice production amidst economic challenges.
The distributed items, including fertilizers, herbicides, and high-quality rice seeds, aim to ensure food security, increase productivity, and sustain rice production throughout the year. Dr. Aliyu applauded the Kogi State Government’s unwavering support, noting the program’s remarkable success in the state.
Commending the farmers for their dedication over the past four years, Dr. Aliyu urged them to utilize the inputs judiciously to improve food production and enhance food security, especially amid prevailing economic hardships.
In his remarks, Mr. Timothy Ojomah, the Kogi Commissioner for Agriculture, reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to empowering farmers for maximum food production. He pledged continued support to create a conducive environment for agricultural growth and development.
Dr. Stella Adejoh, the State Programme Coordinator, reiterated IFAD-VCDP’s support across five local government areas in Kogi State. She expressed optimism for a bumper rice harvest, underscoring the importance of effective input utilization to achieve food security and improve livelihoods.
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the initiative, promising to utilize the inputs to expand their farmlands and enhance rice production, thereby improving their standard of living.
