FOOD SECURITY: LASG Appeals to Residents to Embrace Subsistence Farming
The Lagos State Government, through its Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems, Ms. Abisola Olusanya, has made an impassioned appeal to residents to embrace subsistence farming. This call is part of a broader strategy to ensure self-sufficiency, job creation, and food security across the state. The appeal was made during the official flag-off of the 4th cycle distribution of Agricultural Inputs and Productive Assets in Agege, where essential farming inputs were handed over to over 10,000 farmers across various sectors, including aquaculture, poultry, and vegetable farming.
Olusanya emphasized that the initiative, a collaboration with the Federal Government and the World Bank under the COVID-19 Action Recovery Scheme, aims to reduce the cost of food items across Lagos. The programme will also support farmers in selling their produce at a discounted rate at state-sponsored markets, thus contributing to lower food prices for consumers. The Lagos State Government’s commitment to food security is evident as they continue to provide substantial support to farmers, ensuring the sustainability of this critical sector.
