GAC Members Commend Governor Sanwo-Olu for Peaceful Management of Protests
Members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC) of Lagos State have expressed their strong support for Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s handling of the recent nationwide demonstrations, termed “hunger protests.” Led by their chairman, Prince Tajudeen Olusi, the GAC members paid a solidarity visit to the Governor at the State House in Marina, commending him for his mature and effective leadership in preventing the protests from destabilizing Lagos.
The GAC praised Governor Sanwo-Olu’s approach, which allowed citizens to express their grievances peacefully while ensuring that the state remained calm and stable. They particularly noted the success of the EKOCARES initiative, a social protection programme launched by the Sanwo-Olu administration to mitigate the economic hardship faced by Lagosians. The Sunday Discount Markets, where residents could purchase essential food items at discounted rates, were highlighted as one of the key measures that helped to ease tensions during the protests.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, in response, credited the peaceful outcome to the collective efforts of various stakeholders, including traditional and religious leaders, as well as the youth. He assured that his administration would continue to engage and collaborate with all segments of society to maintain peace and further enhance the welfare of Lagos residents.
