Get Waste Bin for Clean Environment – LAWMA Tells Lagosians
The Managing Director/CEO of the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, has urged Lagos residents to acquire waste bins for proper domestic waste storage to promote a clean and sustainable environment. This call was made during a demonstration of the evacuation of LAWMA smart bins by waste evacuation trucks at LAWMA headquarters, Ijora Olopa.
Dr. Gbadegesin described the smart bins as a game changer in the state’s waste management system. The bins feature an RFID chain, allowing for tracking when emptied by PSP operators, ensuring effective monitoring and assessment of their performance. The bins are geolocated to specific residences, making them trackable if stolen and durable, with a 15-year warranty.
The smart bins are color-coded to encourage waste separation and recycling. Residents can use green bins for general waste and blue bins for recyclables, with opportunities for incentives for collected recyclables. Dr. Gbadegesin emphasized the importance of embracing this innovation to align with Lagos’s development goals in 2024, leveraging Artificial Intelligence and other innovations to keep the city clean.
He appealed to residents to adopt the new waste management system and avoid indiscriminate dumping, highlighting the benefits of engaging the services of assigned PSP operators. This initiative is part of the broader effort to improve waste management and maintain a cleaner, healthier Lagos.
