Gombe Excels in Climate Governance: Governor Yahaya’s Leadership Celebrated
Gombe State has been honored with an AA rating in the Climate Governance Performance Ranking, securing the second position nationwide. This achievement, announced at a prestigious event in Abuja, highlights the state’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya expressed gratitude for the recognition, emphasizing that it motivates his administration to further enhance environmental efforts. Represented by the Commissioner for Environment, Mohammed Sa’idu Fawu, he detailed the state’s initiatives, including the ambitious Gombe Goes Green Project (3G), which aims to plant one million trees annually. This project has already provided jobs and improved biodiversity by planting over four million seedlings since 2019.
The administration’s focus extends to renewable energy, with solar-powered streetlights and solar-equipped government buildings. Flood and erosion control projects are also underway, restoring degraded lands and enhancing community resilience.
The Minister of Environment, Balarabe Abbas Lawan, praised Gombe for its outstanding climate governance, reflecting a strong commitment to sustainable development.
