Gombe State Leads in Revenue Generation Through Technological Innovations
Gombe State is taking bold steps towards financial independence by leveraging technology to boost revenue generation. The Gombe State Internal Revenue Service (GIRS) is spearheading this initiative under the leadership of the newly appointed Chairperson, Hajiya Aisha Adamu Yaro.
During a courtesy visit to Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, Hajiya Aisha Yaro highlighted the state’s ambitious goal of achieving ₦22 billion in revenue for 2024, aiming to position Gombe as a leader in tax collection in the Northeast. Governor Inuwa expressed his confidence in GIRS’ leadership, emphasizing the importance of self-sufficiency for the state.
Under Hajiya Aisha’s leadership, GIRS exceeded its 2023 revenue target by 15%, reaching an all-time high of over ₦15 billion. With the governor’s support and political will, GIRS aims for a 100% increase in revenue target for 2024.
Modern technology will play a crucial role in enhancing GIRS’ efficiency and accountability in tax assessment, collection, and remittance. Plans include online tax payment options and establishing more tax offices across the state. Additionally, GIRS plans to conduct a taxpayer enumeration exercise to ensure comprehensive data for effective revenue collection.
Acknowledging public concerns about tax management, Hajiya Aisha assured transparency and accountability in line with Governor Inuwa’s policies. She emphasized the importance of public education and media engagement to raise awareness about the significance of taxation in funding essential public services.
Ultimately, the success of GIRS’ initiatives relies on the cooperation of the people of Gombe State. Hajiya Aisha urged responsible citizenship, emphasizing the role of taxes in facilitating the state’s development and provision of social amenities. Through collaborative efforts, Gombe aims to achieve financial independence and sustainable growth.
