The Gombe State Government has showcased its commitment to environmental sustainability by contributing N1 billion to the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project. This was announced by the ACReSAL Project Coordinator, Mr. Sani Jauro, during the 2024 Tree Planting campaign in Gombe, the state capital, on May 15, 2024.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s proactive approach has earned Gombe the accolade of being the best implementing state for the ACReSAL project in the country. His administration’s efforts in restoring degraded lands and combating climate change through extensive tree planting campaigns are widely recognized. Jauro praised Governor Yahaya’s political will and support, which have been instrumental in the project’s success.

The event, attended by the wives of northern governors who also participated in tree planting at the Government Girls Mega College, Doma, highlighted the community’s involvement in environmental conservation. Hajiya Asma’u Yahaya, wife of the Gombe State governor and Chairperson of the Northern Governors’ Wives Forum, emphasized the importance of tree planting in mitigating climate change and promoting food security.

Since the inception of the ACReSAL project 18 months ago, Gombe State has achieved significant milestones, including planting over three million trees under the Gombe Goes Green (3G) project. The state’s success story is a testament to the governor’s dedication and the collaborative efforts of various stakeholders, including the support from the World Bank.
