Governor AbdulRazaq’s Assessment Tours Highlight Agricultural Success in Kwara
Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has embarked on extensive assessment tours of large rice and maize farms in Edu, Patigi, Kaiama, and other areas, receiving widespread commendations from communities and farmers.
On Saturday, Governor AbdulRazaq, represented by Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development Toyosi Thomas-Adebayo, toured rice plantations in Edu and Patigi to evaluate the impact of the seedlings, fertilizers, and other inputs recently distributed by the state government. The tour will continue with visits to Kaiama and other regions to inspect maize and soya bean farmlands.
The Governor’s proactive approach included a personal inspection of the Kwara Youths Farm in Malete, where 1,500 hectares are being cultivated for soybeans. The recent distribution of farm inputs aims to support 10,000 farmers across the state, ensuring a bumper harvest and promoting food security.
During the Edu tour, Governor AbdulRazaq emphasized the importance of providing timely and quality inputs to farmers to improve productivity and food security. “Today, we are here for a monitoring exercise to meet farmers who benefitted from the government’s interventions and ensure they are effectively utilizing the support provided,” he stated.
The extensive cultivation of at least 20,000 hectares of land for rice production in the areas covered has been met with satisfaction and praise from local farmers. Governor AbdulRazaq expressed his happiness with the progress observed and commended the farmers for their commitment to the state’s food security drive.
Governor AbdulRazaq highlighted the administration’s multiple interventions this year, including free inputs for 3,400 rice farmers, the NG-CARES FADAMA program for 600,000 farmers, and recent distributions of agrochemicals, fertilizers, and seeds for 10,000 farmers. He assured that more farmers seeking support would be aided in due course.
Farmers, such as Bala Sa’adu from Lade Community, praised the administration for its consistent support, including the desilting of irrigation canals and provision of essential farm inputs. Alhaji Muhammad, Secretary of Sakpefu Community, and Muhammadu Kudu Yakub, representing Lafiagi rice farmers, also expressed gratitude for the government’s interventions and appealed for additional support to further enhance their agricultural activities.
Governor AbdulRazaq’s tours and continued support underscore his administration’s commitment to boosting agricultural productivity and ensuring food security in Kwara State.
