The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed allegations against Governor Dapo Abiodun regarding the mismanagement of local government funds. The party’s Publicity Secretary, Tunde Oladunjoye, criticized accusations made by Wale Adedayo, the recently removed chairman of Ijebu East LGA, describing them as politically motivated.

Oladunjoye emphasized that Governor Abiodun has consistently advocated for increased funding for local governments. He highlighted Abiodun’s support for a new revenue allocation formula, which proposes 30% for the federal government, 45% for states, and 25% for local governments. This proposal, made at the South West Zonal Public Hearing on Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission in Lagos, reflects the governor’s commitment to addressing the financial constraints faced by local governments.

The APC spokesperson underscored that Abiodun’s advocacy predates recent controversies, with consistent calls for a revised allocation formula to address economic realities and support local and state governments in their development roles. Oladunjoye rejected claims of zero allocation to local governments, pointing to ongoing local government projects as evidence of proper fund utilization.

Following a recent Supreme Court ruling mandating direct federal payments to local governments, the APC reiterated its stance against politically motivated attacks and underscored the governor’s longstanding commitment to enhancing local government funding and autonomy.
