The Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has taken another significant step in boosting the state’s economy by approving the release of N500 million as soft loans to benefit traders and artisans across the state. This bold move underscores the governor’s commitment to fostering sustainable economic development through grassroots empowerment.

Governor Abiodun announced the approval during the 2024 Community Day/World Trade Day celebration held at the M.K.O. Abiola Stadium, Kuto Abeokuta. In addition to the loan approval, the governor also donated an 18-seater bus to the State Community Development Council, emphasizing the crucial role of community and trade associations in driving economic growth. He stated, “Any government that underestimates the role of artisans and trade unions does so at its own peril,” reflecting his administration’s dedication to supporting the state’s vibrant informal economy.

The governor’s administration has consistently recognized the importance of community and trade unions in positioning Ogun as Nigeria’s industrial hub. The loan, he noted, is a testament to the government’s belief that economic growth is best achieved through collaboration with grassroots organizations.

Commissioner for Community Development and Cooperatives, Ademola Balogun, praised the governor’s initiative, highlighting that grants-in-aid and subventions would also be extended to outstanding community development projects across the state. These efforts, he said, will further strengthen Ogun State’s community development structures and ensure rapid economic progress.

Leaders from various communities, including Oba Steven Adekoya of Oke-Agbo, Ijebu-Igbo, expressed their gratitude to the government for its continued support, seeing the gesture as a call to further advance community development efforts in the state.
