Governor Abiodun Reaffirms Respect for Nigerian Protesters, Dismisses Fabricated Claims
The Ogun State Government has firmly refuted claims that Governor Dapo Abiodun referred to Nigerian protesters as sore losers amidst the ongoing #EndBadGovernance protest. In a statement issued by Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, the government clarified that Governor Abiodun’s comments were misrepresented.
Governor Abiodun was specifically addressing certain political opponents of President Bola Tinubu who were allegedly exploiting the protest to destabilize the country. The statement emphasized that in his interview with Channels TV, Governor Abiodun did not disparage ordinary Nigerians expressing their grievances over the economic situation. Instead, he reiterated his deep respect for Nigerian youths, students, and workers, whom he holds in high esteem.
The governor praised Ogun residents, particularly the youth, for conducting themselves peacefully during the protests. He assured that his administration remains committed to their well-being and happiness. “The claim that Governor Abiodun insulted ordinary Nigerians is spurious, malicious, and lacks any rational basis,” the statement read, further noting that his words were taken out of context and misinterpreted.
Governor Abiodun’s respect for the protesters has been consistently evident, and he has expressed his appreciation for their peaceful conduct on multiple occasions. The ongoing #EndBadGovernance protest, which began on August 1, 2024, and is set to continue until August 10, 2024, reflects the citizens’ commitment to advocating for better governance.
