Governor Alia Urges Politicians to Address Insecurity Without Politics

Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has called on local and national politicians to refrain from politicizing the insecurity crisis in the state and focus on finding solutions. During an on-site assessment of the crisis area in Ityulugh district at Gbajir, Ukum local government, Governor Alia emphasized the need for unity in addressing security challenges.

Governor Alia criticized politicians for sponsoring militia groups and inciting violence, urging them to prioritize the well-being of their communities over personal interests. He called for transparency and accountability in handling security issues, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between government and traditional leaders.

The governor highlighted the proactive measures taken by security agencies in the area but lamented the challenges posed by criminal elements shielded by locals. He urged vigilante groups to remain vigilant and collaborate with authorities to restore peace and security.

The Ter Ukum and chairman Ukum traditional council, HRH Architect Orkaa Kaave, corroborated the governor’s statements, providing insights into the circumstances leading to the crisis. He emphasized the need for community engagement and urged politicians to refrain from exacerbating tensions.

Governor Alia’s call for non-partisan collaboration underscores the importance of unity in addressing security challenges and fostering peace and stability in affected communities.
