Governor Bassey Otu Urges Traditional Rulers to Foster Unity and Peace
Governor Bassey Otu has called on Traditional Rulers in the state to unite and foster harmonious relationships among their communities and the state. This appeal was conveyed by his Special Adviser on Chieftaincy Affairs, Otu-Ekong Frank Edet, during a statewide courtesy visit to Traditional Rulers across the three Senatorial Districts.
The visit began with a courtesy call on the Obong of Calabar, Edidem Ekpo Okon-Abasi Otu V, at the Obong’s palace in Calabar South. Otu-Ekong Frank Edet also met with the Muri Munene of Efut, Muri Itam Hogan Itam.
During his visits, Edet emphasized the Governor’s commitment to restoring peace and order within the traditional system. He urged Traditional Rulers to resolve disputes amicably rather than pursuing litigation, and warned that certificates of recognition issued without proper process would be revoked.
The Obong of Calabar praised the Governor’s choice of Otu-Ekong Frank Edet for the role, advising him to remain loyal, humble, and truthful in his duties. The Muri Munene of Efut expressed concern over recent chaos in the Efut nation and commended the Governor for his efforts to address these issues, also requesting assistance in rebuilding the vandalized palace.
Governor Bassey Otu’s call for unity and effective conflict resolution aims to strengthen traditional institutions and promote a peaceful environment throughout the state.
