Governor Biodun Oyebanji Boosts Support for Higher Education
In a significant move, Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State has approved a substantial increase in the subvention to all state-owned higher institutions. This decision reflects the governor’s commitment to prioritizing higher education, aiming to uphold Ekiti’s status as the education capital of Nigeria.
The enhanced subventions are as follows:
– Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH): Increased from N261 million to N411 million.
– Ekiti State University (EKSU): Elevated from N260 million to N410 million.
– Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere – Ekiti (BOUESTI): Raised from N175.8 million to N275.8 million.
– Ekiti State Polytechnic, Isan: Escalated from N45 million to N95 million.
– Ekiti State College of Health Science and Technology, Ijero: Advanced from N26 million to N76 million.
This move results in a commendable total subvention increase from N767.8 million per month to N1.27 billion. Governor Oyebanji’s proactive measures also include settling one month of outstanding subvention to all tertiary institutions and extending the Independent Power Plant (IPP) to EKSU and EKSUTH, ensuring uninterrupted 24-hour power supply. These initiatives align with the government’s strategic efforts to position the state’s higher institutions as leaders, offering top-notch education for the 21st century.
