Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s Tribute: A National Monument for Col. Fajuyi
Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State has called for the establishment of a national monument in honor of the late Col. Adekunle Fajuyi, the former military governor of the old Western Region. This request was made during a special performance of the play “Fajuyi,” which was produced by the Duke of Shomolu Foundation and held at the Obafemi Awolowo Civic Centre in Ado Ekiti.
Governor Oyebanji also suggested a posthumous national award for Col. Fajuyi’s family, recognizing the heroic contributions of this remarkable soldier. He commended Fajuyi for embodying honor, integrity, and unwavering loyalty, with his legacy continuing to shine brightly.
He emphasized the commitment of Ekiti Kete (the people of Ekiti) to upholding Fajuyi’s memory and the values of courage and dedication that he represents. The governor expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy, as well as the Duke of Shomolu Foundation for their efforts in bringing the play to life. Special thanks were extended to Premium Trust Bank for sponsoring the performance.
The play “Fajuyi,” written and directed by Prof. Rasaki Bakare Ojo, Ekiti State Commissioner for Arts and Culture, is set to be staged in Lagos on November 5, 2023, with the families of Adekunle Fajuyi and Gen. Aguiyi Ironsi in attendance. The Lagos performance will be a notable occasion, with dignitaries such as Chief Emeka Anyaoku, Gen. Ike Nwachukwu, Prince Julius Adelusi-Adelusi, and Governor Oyebanji expected to join. “Fajuyi” is made possible through the sponsorship of Premium Trust Bank, MTN Foundation, and Purple Anchor Insurance, with executive producers Dr. Tunji Olowolafe and Mrs. Mofoluwake Edgar for the Duke of Shomolu Foundation.
