Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s Vision for Gombe State University: Meeting the Demands of the Emerging Oil Sector
Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has demonstrated exceptional foresight by urging the authorities of the state-owned university to introduce innovative programs that align with the skill requirements of the burgeoning oil sector. Governor Inuwa Yahaya articulated this visionary strategy during his address at the 10th, 11th, 12th, and 13th combined convocation ceremony of the Gombe State University (GSU), held at the institution’s impressive complex. He emphasized the need for the university to adapt and offer new programs to cater to the evolving demands of various sectors, particularly those emerging due to the transformative Muhammadu Buhari Industrial Park and extensive investment endeavors across the state.
While acknowledging the financial challenges faced by the university as it expands its infrastructure to accommodate the growing demand for higher education and the introduction of fresh programs at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, Governor Inuwa Yahaya assured the institution of unwavering support. As the Visitor to the university, he reaffirmed his commitment to nurturing GSU into a prestigious center for learning, a source of pride for the people of Gombe State, and indeed, a beacon of excellence for Nigeria.
In his address, Vice-Chancellor of the Gombe State University, Professor Aliyu Usman El-Nafaty, highlighted the remarkable journey of the university, which commenced in 2005 with just three faculties and has now expanded to encompass eight faculties, a college of Medical Sciences, and an upcoming satellite campus in Dukku. This impressive growth underscores the university’s dedication to providing quality education and contributing to the development of Gombe State and the nation at large. Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s visionary leadership ensures that GSU remains at the forefront of preparing the region’s workforce for the exciting opportunities presented by the emerging oil sector.
