Governor Namadi’s Digital Initiative Revolutionizes Education in Jigawa State
Governor Mallam Umar Namadi has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to elevating Jigawa State’s education sector through the groundbreaking “JIGAWA COMPETE” initiative. This digital transformation program is designed to enhance educational delivery and position Jigawa as a leader in technological empowerment.
Launched in January 2024, the JIGAWA COMPETE (Jigawa Comprehensive Mastery, Proficiency, Excellence, and Technological Empowerment) initiative equips both teachers and students with essential tools to thrive in the rapidly evolving digital economy. Governor Namadi highlighted this during the official launching of the “Training of Teachers on the JIGAWA COMPETE Initiative” in Dutse, underscoring the state’s commitment to modernizing education.
The initiative is part of the broader State ICT Strategy, aiming to promote e-governance and establish Jigawa State as a key digital hub in Northern Nigeria. The Governor commended the progress made, citing key achievements like the development of a comprehensive Educational Management Information System (EMIS) software, which centralizes data on schools, infrastructure, staff, and students.
Over 3,000 secondary school teachers have embraced the Jigawa EMIS Application, which is available on the Google Play Store, marking significant strides in digital engagement. In partnership with UNICEF, the initiative benefits from internet routers and free online access to the EMIS software, with continued support until 2027. Additionally, the program includes National Identity Management enrollment for Senior Secondary School Students, helping track student progress and addressing challenges like learning poverty.
Governor Namadi expressed satisfaction with the project’s trajectory, emphasizing that JIGAWA COMPETE exemplifies his vision for a future where all students have access to quality education and the skills needed for sustainable development. He lauded the Ministry of Higher Education and all partners involved, urging stakeholders to continue increasing student enrollment and retention rates.
Governor Namadi also outlined plans to extend ICT training opportunities through the newly established Jigawa State ICT & Digital Economy Agency. This initiative will provide regular training for thousands of youths, further strengthening Jigawa’s digital capabilities and creating new employment opportunities.
