Governor Nwifuru Warns Ebonyi Council Officials Against Sabotage of Government Projects
Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has issued a stern warning to local government chairpersons against sabotaging state government contracts and diverting items meant for public empowerment in their areas.
Speaking during a Church Service at the Government House Chapel in Abakaliki on Sunday, Governor Nwifuru emphasized the importance of community development, urging town unions and other stakeholders to actively supervise projects in their regions to ensure they meet government standards.
“If you are a coordinator or a local government chairman who resides in Abakaliki and rarely visits your village, don’t expect the people to support you,” the governor remarked. “You must work in the interest of the people, as our youths need your attention.”
Governor Nwifuru underscored the expectation that coordinators should be executing projects worth at least N10 million monthly, while chairmen should manage projects valued at no less than N20 million per month.
He also praised the youths of Ebonyi State for not participating in the recent nationwide protests against economic hardship, interpreting their restraint as an encouragement for the government to do more.
“The youths didn’t protest because we are perfect. They have challenged us to do more, and as government officials, we must rise to that challenge,” he stated, calling on the youth to help protect public facilities in their communities.
