In a heartwarming gesture, Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State has initiated the second phase of palliative support for the people of Ekiti. Just two weeks after commencing the monthly transfer of N5,000 to indigent citizens, the Governor’s dedication to the welfare of the people shines through.

Governor Oyebanji, who expressed deep respect for the citizens and considers them his true bosses, also rallied support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration in the removal of fuel subsidy. He emphasized that this policy is aimed at strengthening the economy for a brighter future, not to burden the citizens.

Addressing the citizens during the distribution ceremony in Ado Ekiti, Governor Oyebanji assured the people of a more prosperous future, increased infrastructure development, and improved living standards in the coming years. He urged the citizens to provide feedback and promised to correct any government actions they find unfavorable.

The consumables, including rice and maize distributed in this second phase, were provided by both the federal and state governments to ease the impact of subsidy removal on the people. These palliatives are specifically intended for the poorest in the community, ensuring that those who can afford their daily meals without difficulty do not partake.

Governor Oyebanji also announced various initiatives to alleviate the economic pressures brought about by the subsidy removal, including a free transport system for teachers and civil servants and a three-month N5,000 stipend for disadvantaged citizens.

Highlighting the importance of subsidy removal for a better future, he implored the citizens to continue supporting President Tinubu’s vision and his government’s commitment to their well-being. Ekiti State sets an example by being the first to distribute the second batch of palliatives, with a promise to continue these efforts as more support arrives from the federal government.

Moreover, in an effort to boost economic development, Governor Oyebanji revealed plans to provide maize to poultry businesses in the state.

The Commissioner for Agriculture and Chairman of the Palliative Distribution Committee, Mr. Ebenezer Boluwade, praised the Governor’s sensitivity, empathy, and sympathy, highlighting the importance of compassion during these times. He called on individuals and private organizations to join hands with the government to make life more meaningful for the people, ensuring that every household receives their share of this generosity.
