In a heartfelt statewide broadcast, Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has assured citizens of his unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property amidst the planned nationwide protests. Highlighting the potential for such demonstrations to devolve into violence, he emphasized that his administration will not tolerate any breakdown of law and order.

Governor Oyebanji reminded citizens of the devastating effects of the #EndSARS protests, which resulted in significant destruction of both private and public infrastructure. He stressed that Ekiti State cannot afford another episode of massive economic disruption. “A protest should be conducted under a peaceful atmosphere without recourse to any violent disturbances,” the Governor stated, urging citizens to exercise their constitutional rights responsibly.

The Governor expressed concern that the planned protests might be hijacked by those with ulterior motives, aiming to cause chaos under the guise of fighting for the people. He recalled the long-lasting damage from the #EndSARS protests, noting that some public buildings and infrastructure remain in ruins nearly four years later. “Blocking roads and preventing the distribution of goods and services will only aggravate poverty and worsen the situation,” he said.

Governor Oyebanji reassured the people that his administration is actively working to address current economic challenges, including food price inflation and high transportation costs. He highlighted ongoing palliative measures and significant investments in agriculture to boost food production and alleviate food poverty. “We are supporting our farmers through land clearing, ploughing, and providing free and subsidized seedlings and fertilizers,” the Governor announced.

In his broadcast, Governor Oyebanji also called on parents, guardians, traditional rulers, and religious leaders to dissuade the youth from participating in violent protests. He emphasized that peaceful protests can easily be hijacked by hoodlums, leading to unpredictable and often destructive outcomes.

“Together, we can overcome these challenges and continue our journey towards shared prosperity,” the Governor concluded, assuring the people of Ekiti that their safety and wellbeing remain his top priority.
