Governor Radda Empowers 3,610 Extension Agents
Katsina State, under the visionary leadership of Governor Dikko Umar Radda is poised to usher in a new era of agricultural excellence. The state government has meticulously prepared to engage 3,610 volunteer extension agents, strategically distributed across 361 wards, reflecting the governor’s unwavering commitment to agricultural development.
The announcement of this groundbreaking initiative was made by Professor Ahmed Muhammad-Bakori, the esteemed Commissioner for Agriculture and Livestock Development in Katsina. He shared this inspiring news during a meeting held in his office, graced by the presence of Dr. Victor Chika, the National Coordinator of the prestigious RAYUWA project.
In a bid to expedite the delivery of top-tier extension services, the Ministry of Agriculture, in collaboration with the Farmers Association of Nigeria chapter in the state, will provide comprehensive training to 10 dedicated volunteers from each ward. These 3,610 well-trained individuals will subsequently become the guiding lights for local farmers within their respective communities.
Moreover, the state government is actively engaged in recruiting an additional 361 extension agents while transforming 361 existing local government agricultural staff into extension agents. This visionary initiative seeks to deploy two extension officers to every ward, ensuring that knowledge and support reach the grassroots level.
Adding to this remarkable endeavor, the Katsina State Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, in harmonious partnership with its associated agencies, will work hand in hand with the RAYUWA project. The project’s overarching objective is to establish resilient agriculture and uplift the livelihoods of communities, with a special focus on Kafur local government. This noble endeavor will be facilitated by the dedicated Volunteer Extension Agents (VEAs) carefully selected from within these communities.
