Governor Sanwo-Olu Advocates Women’s Empowerment for Africa’s Industrial Growth
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu highlighted the pivotal role of women in accelerating Africa’s industrialization during the celebration of the 34th Africa Industrialisation Day held in Lagos. Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Barrister ‘Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, Sanwo-Olu emphasized the need for women’s active involvement in the workforce to contribute significantly to economic development. He outlined various initiatives by the Lagos State government, such as grants, loans, capacity building, access to markets, and other interventions through the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund, aimed at empowering women and fostering innovation, growth, and productivity aligned with the state’s development agenda.
Additionally, Hon. Abiodun Tobun and Mrs. Folashade Ambrose-Medebem highlighted the importance of sustaining policies that support women’s development and providing access to markets, especially in the context of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA). Guest Speaker, Mr. Kuti George, stressed the need for equipping women in processing industries through training programs and collaborative efforts involving governments, private sectors, civil society, and international organizations to foster sustainable and inclusive industrial growth across Africa.
