Governor Sanwo-Olu Inaugurates Policymakers Technical Session on North West Peace and Security
In a significant move towards tackling developmental and security challenges in the North West Zone, Governor Sanwo-Olu inaugurated the Policymakers Technical Session on the North West Peace and Security Development Framework for Commissioners of Security. The session, held at Bafra Hotel in Kaduna, aims to review the report from the Inaugural North West Peace and Security Summit and outline a comprehensive roadmap for peace and security in the region.
Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized the urgency of the meeting, stressing that the North West Zone faces an existential threat that requires immediate action. He proposed a multidimensional approach to security management, including the establishment of a North West Theater Command and extending the Multinational Joint Task Force to cover international borders.
Key initiatives highlighted include socioeconomic interventions, the formation of Standing Security Committees, non-kinetic programs on deradicalization, and a massive campaign for ethical reorientation. The Governor also underscored the importance of regional cooperation in supporting security forces, enhancing intelligence systems, stimulating investment, and developing agriculture and rural infrastructure.
Governor Sanwo-Olu concluded by appreciating the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for its commitment to the North West Peace and Security Summit’s goals, reinforcing the collaborative effort needed to address the region’s challenges.
