Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has introduced the One Kindred, One Business (OKOBI) program, mandating its implementation across all 655 autonomous communities in the state. This initiative was announced during an emergency Executive Council meeting on Monday.

According to a statement by Oguwike Nwachuku, the Chief Press Secretary and Media Adviser to the Governor, the OKOBI program aims to generate employment and ensure food security at the local level. Governor Uzodimma urged the communities to embrace the initiative, which will enable them to own and operate businesses of their choice.

Prof. Kenneth Amaeshi, the Chief Economic Adviser to the Governor, elaborated on the program’s objectives, stating that it is designed to democratize business ownership in Nigeria and encourage cooperative work among community members. He noted that up to 300 potential businesses have been identified for establishment within Imo State communities, highlighting the successful Okpofe Community in Ezinihitte Mbaise Local Government Area as a model.

The implementation of the OKOBI program will involve collaboration with traditional rulers, town union President Generals, and community stakeholders. Amaeshi emphasized the need for these groups to work together to develop plans and secure government support for their business ventures.

In addition to the OKOBI program, the Executive Council extended condolences for the recent passing of Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, the immediate past President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, and observed a minute of silence for eight individuals killed by bandits in Umucheke Okwe, Onuimo Local Government Area.

Chief Political Adviser Enyinna Onuegbu addressed ongoing infrastructure projects, noting that while rain has delayed road construction, work will resume once the weather improves. He assured that projects like the Control Post/Assumpta Cathedral Flyover and the Ihiagwa bridge will be completed soon. Onuegbu also mentioned improvements to inner ring roads leading to Timber Market Naze and Alaba Market, asking traders for patience as construction continues after the rainy season.
