The National Council of Youths (NACOY) in Ohaji, an oil-rich community in Imo State, has appealed to Governor Hope Uzodimma to leverage his influence and compel oil companies in the region to mobilize contractors for extensive road repairs. Criticizing the deteriorating road network across oil-bearing communities, the body urged the Governor’s intervention to ensure timely road repairs, particularly highlighting the Avu-Etekuru road’s urgency before the upcoming rainy season.

In a statement, NACOY’s President, Comrade Nwosu Nicholas Tochukwu, emphasized the need for equitable treatment of the area as the economic backbone of the state, stressing the dire condition of roads affecting about twenty communities. The deteriorating roads hamper daily activities, exacerbated during rainy seasons, with significant damage attributed to heavy equipment and trucks operated by oil companies.

The youths highlighted stalled projects such as the Obile-Assa-Ochia-Awara road awarded by Shell (SPDC) to Recon Engineering Company, among others. They urged immediate action to resolve these issues, advocating for the initiation of essential projects that have remained stagnant for over two years, significantly impacting the affected communities’ development.
