Inspiring Tribute: Governor Dapo Abiodun Establishes Scholarship Scheme in Loving Memory of Late Son, DJ Olu

In a heartfelt tribute to his late son, Gbemiga Abiodun, affectionately known as DJ Olu, Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has unveiled a scholarship award scheme that will brighten the futures of 550 deserving students in Remo Federal Constituency. This initiative, born out of love and compassion, is set to honor the memory of the talented DJ Olu, who tragically passed away six years ago.
DJ Olu, celebrated for his innovative mixing of various music genres, including afrobeat, hip-hop, oldies, and basement music, left a lasting legacy before his untimely departure in October 2017. His unique sound captivated audiences far and wide, and now his legacy continues to thrive through this remarkable scholarship program.
This extraordinary scholarship initiative extends its generous hand to students in primary and secondary schools, as well as those pursuing vocational and tertiary education in Remoland. Governor Abiodun’s vision for this program is to ensure that brilliant minds and those who may not have the means to access quality education receive the support they need to succeed.
During the official launch of the Gbemiga Abiodun Education Scholarship Award held in Iperu, Ikenne Local Government Area, Governor Abiodun announced his commitment to expand the program to include 1,000 beneficiaries within the next year, ensuring an even broader reach across the state’s federal constituencies.
Governor Abiodun passionately expressed, “It is against this backdrop that my family came up with a scholarship scheme called Gbemiga Abiodun Memorial Scholarship Award, in memory of our son, Gbemiga Abiodun, which is strictly for indigent learners of public primary, secondary schools, technical college and Tertiary institutions, as well as special need learners within Ikenne, Remo North, and Sagamu Local Government Areas, to provide support to selected learners who are from the aforementioned local government areas of Ogun State.”
The Gbemiga Abiodun Education Scholarship Award has two phases: a Scholarship Award for indigent and brilliant students and a Bursary Award for in-need students whose potential for upward socio-economic mobility can be realized with financial support.
This noble scholarship program is designed to span three years and accommodate students between the ages of 6 and 25. The selection process will be carried out by the State Ministry of Education Science and Technology, ensuring transparency and fairness. Beneficiaries in tertiary institutions were recommended by their respective schools.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, disclosed that this generous initiative is sponsored by the Dapo Abiodun family. Under the program, 200 learners from public primary schools will receive N50,000 each to support their educational materials, 200 students from public secondary schools will receive N100,000 for their educational needs, and 100 students in tertiary institutions will be granted N250,000 each to help them pursue their educational aspirations.
Governor Dapo Abiodun’s enduring commitment to education and his loving tribute to his late son exemplify the spirit of compassion and hope that continues to shine brightly in Ogun State. This scholarship scheme embodies the belief that every young mind has the potential to soar, and it is a testament to the enduring legacy of DJ Olu.
