Jigawa State Distributes 59,000 Bags of Rice to Vulnerable Residents
In a significant move to alleviate hunger and support vulnerable populations, the Jigawa State Government has commenced the distribution of 59,000 bags of 25kg rice and other grains across the state’s 287 council wards. The initiative, launched at Dutse Government House, is part of a broader effort led by Governor Malam Umar Namadi to ensure food security for the state’s most needy residents.
Governor Namadi acknowledged the Federal Government’s contribution under President Bola Ahmad Tinubu’s administration, which supplied the state with a substantial amount of food items, including 13,825 bags of sorghum, 9,500 bags of millet, 11,500 bags of maize, and 24,000 bags of rice. To expand the reach of this relief effort, the Jigawa State Government added 23,000 cartons of spaghetti, 5,000 bags of rice, 500 bags of sorghum, and 5,000 bags of maize.
The Commissioner for Special Duties, Hon. Auwal Dalladi Sankara, highlighted that beneficiaries were carefully selected from all 27 local government areas in the state. He noted that this distribution is part of ongoing palliative and empowerment programs initiated by Governor Namadi, which have already positively impacted over 3 million people in Jigawa State.
To ensure equitable distribution, a stakeholders’ committee has been established to oversee the allocation of food items. The committee’s goal is to ensure that the distribution process is efficient and reaches 100 beneficiaries in each political ward as swiftly as possible.
Representing the Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Hajiya Zubaida Umar, NEMA Zonal Director Dr. Nura Abdullahi praised Jigawa State for its prompt and effective action in distributing these essential food supplies, describing the state’s Emergency Response System as exemplary.
